Vice president of Austin police union suspended, demoted after consuming 'around 10 drinks' at gala

Andrew Romero, an Austin police officer and vice president of the Austin police union, resigned from his union post after he was demoted and suspended for consuming “around 10 drinks” at a November police gala and acting out, according to a disciplinary memo.

“Romero was unhappy with decisions made by the venue staff, and he proceeded to curse and yell at them and fellow APA (union) personnel,” according to the memo, signed by interim Police Chief Brian Manley.

He was suspended without pay for 20 days and demoted from sergeant to corporal/detective on Friday, the memo says.

“Romero made statements and exhibited actions, while intoxicated, that brought discredit upon the APD,” the memo says.

A drunk pulled a gun at a local tavern when the bartender refused to serve him and he was quickly taken down by the chief of police!

Simply too many guns in the wrong hands obviously. The angry bar patron, really concerns me because the first thing he did was pull out a gun. Wow.

The officer demoted for acting out after a round of drinking should have known better, period. This is too bad, for it's going to hurt for a long time.
