Another day, another low for Texas' lowest politician

Can't say what kind of a council member Salman Bhojani will make for Euless. He's the new guy, just elected last weekend.

His resume sounds fine: Lawyer, Scout leader, family guy, parks board member — the solid-citizen type who typifies candidates in local elections.

What gives pause isn't the guy himself, but the way the opposition talked about him during the campaign: "sneaky," "dangerous," and — get ready for it — "Muslim."

Feel free to join me in heaving a tortured sigh. By and large, the ugly talk here didn't come from Bhojani's opponent, a retired teacher with tea party ties. It came from her most visible supporter, state Rep. Jonathan Stickland, R-Bedford.
