Katy woman allegedly stole $200K from youth hockey league

A Katy woman is accused of using her role as a youth hockey league treasurer to embezzle $223,327 over a period of five years, according to the Fort Bend County Sheriff's Office.

Michele Bernier, 51, became the treasurer for Houston's Interscholastic Hockey League in 2013, according to a Wednesday press release.

The league president told the sheriff's office that he noticed discrepancies in the budget and confronted Bernier.

Bernier reportedly admitted to withdrawing funds from the league's bank account for her personal use since 2013, the sheriff's office said.
