'Scary part is the unknown': Former Dallas Mayor Pro Tem Dwaine Caraway begins federal prison sentence
Former Dallas Mayor Pro Tem Dwaine Caraway is now Federal Inmate No. 57553-177.
And just before 2 p.m. Tuesday, he officially became a resident of West Texas Big Spring, to be precise, home of the low-security federal correctional institute and prison camp where Caraway will spend at least part of the 56 months to which District Judge Barbara M.G. Lynn sentenced him last month.
Caraway, who pleaded guilty in August to accepting about $450,000 in bribes and kickbacks from the men responsible for the downfall of bus-and-crossing-guard agency Dallas County Schools, turned 67 one week ago. And for the first time in all those years, he will live somewhere other than Dallas. Big Spring is about 300 miles west of Dallas, on the road to El Paso.
