TYLER — An ex-University of Texas at Tyler student known on social media as the “Asian Nazi” has been sentenced to federal prison for firearms violations, U.S. Attorney Joseph D. Brown announced Tuesday.

Heon “Hank” Jong Yoo, 25, was found guilty on Nov. 15, 2018, of seven counts of false statements made in connection with firearms transactions and one count of unlawful possession by a prohibited person.

Yoo was sentenced Tuesday to 97 months in federal prison by U.S. District Judge Robert W. Schroeder III in the Eastern District of Texas. Yoo was ordered to surrender to immigration officials for deportation after serving his sentence.

Yoo has been held in the Gregg County Jail since April 2018 after being transferred from the Smith County Jail.
