Protesters gather in El Paso ahead of Trump's visit with Walmart shooting victims

3:20 p.m. Heat takes its toll

Emergency workers treated at least three people for heat-related exhaustion before the protest ended.

Henry Ocegueda, a 66-year-old retired Vietnam Veteran, said it was “absolutely worth it” to brave the heat.

“I wanted to show up and support the people in my community,” Ocegueda said. “We are suffering. A lot of us have anger. We want to tell Donald Trump that he needs to stop his rhetoric.”

3:10 p.m. Gathering begins to break up

Protesters are beginning to leave the ballpark, but those parked south of the area have been directed by a line of police to wait.

Nearby streets are closed while President Trump visits patients in the critical care unit of nearby University Medical Center of El Paso.
