Straight Pride march planned for Dallas

Super Happy Fun America is coming to Dallas on Nov. 16. Are you ready for the merriment?

Who or what, you may be asking, is Super Happy Fun America? Well, those are the same folks who brought you that rousing success last August known as the Boston Straight Pride Parade. There were, according to USAToday, “hundreds” of people that marched under the motto of “It’s Great to be Straight,” in Boston. But other sources, including The Guardian, noted that the parade was “dwarfed” by the number of counter-protesters who turned out.

One of the speakers at the Straight Pride march in Boston was a Texan named Teresa Stephens Richenberger. Now Richenberger is turning her sights on Dallas, and the Super Happy Fun folks are coming to North Texas to support her.

The straight pride event in Dallas is set for Saturday, Nov. 16, from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. at Dallas City Hall, 1500 Marilla St. It is being hosted by a group called Protecting Our Next Generations, or PONG, which, according to its Facebook page, is focused on stopping Americans’ values and morals from being compromised.

Because we straight white people are totally endangered.

Jeez. I'll admit that as a straight white woman there's a lot about everything out there that I don't get. But I figure the problem is me, not anyone else. And I'll honestly deal with it on a need to know basis. The other day I was introduced to a young person and immediately told the preferred pronoun was they. I then said that I would sincerely try to get it straight, but hoped I'd be forgiven for a lapse or two. As it happens, I didn't cross paths with that person again, and so my ignorance or lack of getting it correct wasn't an issue.

More to the point, speaking as an older (age 71) person, I can be driven crazy by my age mates who complain bitterly about things like road changes that occurred a decade ago. Too many old people are far too stuck in the past. I'm probably more like that than I realize, but I find myself frequently challenging my age mates on these things. They complain all the time that things are not exactly like they were 50 years ago. Trust me, when we were 20 we were highly impatient with old people.

Oh, and don't get me started on how people my age complain about young people being lazy and incompetent. I remember all too well when we Boomers first hit the job market. Lazy and incompetent, was the general consensus. Here's the truth. Young people first starting out are collectively not as competent or hardworking as their elders. That is always the case. Then the young people grow into the jobs, get competent and before you know it, they are complaining bitterly about the newcomers.

Spare me the criticisms of the older generation.

snip

As the marchers gathered at Copley before they started walking their route, hundreds of counter-protesters set up at City Hall Plaza.

Monica Cannon-Grant, a Black Lives Matter activist from Cambridge, helped organize that demonstration.

"We don't want the story to be about 'straight pride,' because there's no such thing," she said. "We want the story to be [that] we showed up in numbers and we supported each other, and we uplift the voices of people who are most affected by this hatred."https://www.wbur.org/news/2019/08/31/straight-pride-parade-saturday-boston

A bunch of Ahole bigots. What morals and values do they think are being compromised?

Hmm- Does not being straight compromise your ability to be truthful?
does not being straight compromise your ability to be kind?
does not being straight compromise your ability to be loyal?
does not being straight compromise your ability to be faithful?
does not being straight compromise your ability to show empathy?
does not being straight compromise your ability to treat people fairly?
If it doesn't then they need to just shut the fuck up. Sorry, I'm just over these bigots. Enough of these bigots, racists, religious zealots holding the country hostage.

How about they go march on the occupant of the White House who has compromised all of the above values?

No real straight guy would have to prove they are straight.
