Substitute Teacher Arrested After Video Shows Her Hit, Stomp Student's Head at Central Texas School

A Central Texas woman was arrested Friday after she was filmed beating a student while substituting at a school in Kyle.

According to a report from CBS Austin, Tiffani Shadell Lankford was the substitute for a foreign language class at Lehman High School in Hays CISD, located in Hays County. An attorney for the student's family said students in the classroom were being so loud that Lankford began cursing at the students.

The female student then allegedly told Lankford not to talk to her that way. Footage from various angles shows the student slap Lankford, who then hits the student repeatedly before pulling her out of her desk and stomping on her head.

The student, who the district said is a 16-year-old sophomore, was taken to a hospital for evaluation. She also reportedly has epilepsy.

... does Texas have for substitute teachers? As a credentialed teacher, I've seen a lot in the classroom - there is nothing that would warrant this woman's behavior. I hope the district and prosecutors take action.

However, most districts do pay substitute teachers that have a college degree more than those without a degree, It certainly should have raised a flag when her criminal record shows that she has convictions for domestic violence.

and she should most likely be barred from any type of employment that involves significant interaction with children. She is a ticking time bomb waiting to explode.

Who the hell thinks they can do this to a minor in school? For one, she should have never gotten in that students face like that.

She could have broken that kids neck.

She's no cop. No badge. She should seek another line of work. Bouncer maybe.

Sue the superintendent who hired her, too.

Lankford has been charged with second-degree felony aggravated assault. The incident was reported to the Texas Education Agency.

FYI, the Hays Consolidated School District lies between San Marcos and Austin and is a reasonably large school district that has about 2,500 students at the high school. The demographics of the area near Kyle are mostly Anglo and Hispanic students with lower numbers of Blacks and Asians.

I definitely don't understand how she was hired to begin with since she had domestic violence in her criminal record. However, the compensation for substitute teachers in the Austin area may actually be less than someone can earn at a fast-food restaurant.

I'm always wary of advocating for suing public entities and officials such as superintendents because the ones that pay in the long run are the taxpayers. The superintendent will never pay a penny, but he might be run off from the job depending upon how the school board wants to handle it.

but I cannot think of any scenario that would excuse this behavior - it's just plain criminal
