Up to 850 San Angelo ISD students have fallen through the cracks in online education

SAN ANGELO — School board officials on Monday said up to 850 children, about 6% of San Angelo ISD students, were unaccounted for in the district's online learning program, which launched a month ago.

Officials said teachers, principals and counselors are working to contact children whose education has stalled after the coronavirus shuttered San Angelo ISD buildings in March. The district has an enrollment of about 14,520 students.

Gov. Greg Abbott announced last week that Texas schools would remain closed for the remainder of the 2019-20 school year.

On Monday, April 20, 2020, board members with San Angelo Independent School District met virtually using video conferencing app Zoom as part of efforts to maintain social distancing.
