Hillstone Restaurant Group changes mask policy after backlash and lawsuit
After employee complaints, a lawsuit and mounting public pressure on social media, Hillstone Restaurant Group, which operates four popular Dallas-area high-end restaurants, has changed its policy on employees wearing face coverings at work.
The company, which operates 45 units nationally across a multitude of brands, came under fire after prohibiting its employees from abiding by CDC recommendations for wearing masks when it opened its dining rooms in Dallas and Addison.
An employee, later referred to as Jane Doe in a complaint, received a temporary restraining order on Friday, permitting her to return to work and wear a mask. Attorneys for Hillstone attempted to have the motion for the restraining order removed to a higher court, but later dropped the motion. An injunction is in place until May 20 when Judge Tonya Parker is expected to rule on the complaint.
Hillstone, which has not responded directly to The Dallas Morning News, changed wording on its website, indicating all employees were free to wear masks.
