Conservative leaders and two Republican candidates have filed suit to block Gov. Greg Abbotts order that added six days of early voting for the November election as a pandemic-inspired safety measure.
The extension, they argued, must be struck down as a violation of the Texas Constitution and state law.
This draconian order is contrary to the Texas spirit and invades the liberties the people of Texas protected in the constitution, the lawsuit argued. If the courts allow this invasion of liberty, todays circumstances will set a precedent for the future, forever weakening the protections Texans sacrificed to protect.
The lawsuit was the latest attempt by prominent conservative activist Steven Hotze to overturn Abbotts executive orders and proclamations in response to the coronavirus.

Of course they are trying to block this. Anything to aid voter suppression.

(6,915 posts)Voter suppression people walked right into this defeat. Democrats, by virtue of calling-out the incessant voter suppression efforts by Republicans, will now have that fact frame every voting change from now until November. Republicans made their own bed, now they must lie in it.
Its like that stupid lawsuit by Georgias Governor to sue Atlantas mayor for requiring masks. Going to court and legal maneuvers are viewed as desperate attempts, legal fine-print used by losers.
The language is so case of the vapors it makes you look for a fainting couch. This draconian order...
What a bunch of drama queens with a law license.
