(42,862 posts)You're correct. It's shameful behavior. Unfortunately just because something is "legal" and can slip through a loophole... that doesn't mean it's ETHICAL or RIGHT.
Personally, I believe we should expect more (and demand more) from our elected representatives, no matter which party he or she belongs to. It's this type of behavior that typifies the reasons that many Americans do not trust our elected representatives.

(22,250 posts)out Jim Wright as Speaker of the House. If I recall correctly, it wasn't much different from what Cruz is pulling now. The next Speaker, Newt Gingrich pulled the same stunt and was eventually stripped of his Speakership. What goes around comes around.
Texas 12 lost a legendary and highly dedicated Congressional representative as a result, and now we are stuck with #KremlinKay Granger the only House member on that July 4 flight to Russia
Speaker Wright did not run in the next election mostly for health issues. He suffered 3 rounds of oral cancer before his death. I still miss his marvelous voice and the education he gave us on what serving his district really meant to him and to us. He was the representative from TX 12 for many years and would be so disappointed in the condition of Congress today. I would caution the residents of Weatherford where he is buried, that any earth tremors out there are caused by Jim Wright rolling over in his grave.
I met him at our church and we became friends. When Speaker Pelosi was elected the first time, he was just delighted. He had seen her grow from a young woman to what she is today; he was immensly proud of her.
