Briscoe Cain is now Chair of House Elections Committee

This is a bill that he filed, HB 330. Is is a big effing mess!

https://capitol.texas.gov/tlodocs/87R/billtext/pdf/HB00330I.pdf#navpanes=0

1. Elminates bond elections by requiring 2/3 passage and at least 20% election turnout

2. Wrong address on voter registration: Felony jail

3 ???
4. Proposition cannot exceed 400 characters

5. Punishes election judges for allowing provisional voting with criminal state jail felonies

6. Only voters who can't see or write can have voting assistance - providing assistance in other cases is punishable by jail.

7. Nursing homes who submit more than 5 vote by mail applications cannot vote by mail, instead the nursing home must be a polling site.

Republican who helped Trump campaign challenge Joe Biden's win will lead election work in Texas House

State Rep. Briscoe Cain was named chair of the House Elections Committee months after traveling to Pennsylvania to help the Trump campaign challenge the results of the 2020 election.

A conservative attorney who volunteered to help former President Donald Trump’s legal team as it attempted to overturn the outcome of the 2020 election will take the lead on election issues in the Texas House this year.

With Texas’ Republican leadership cataloguing “election integrity” as a top priority this legislative session, House Speaker Dade Phelan on Thursday named state Rep. Briscoe Cain, R-Deer Park, as the chair of the House Elections Committee. The panel, which has a Republican majority, typically considers legislation related to voting rules and election law.

Cain, who previously served on the committee, traveled to Pennsylvania in the days after Election Day to work with the Trump campaign. The campaign eventually filed a lawsuit alleging widespread issues with mail-in ballots in the state. A federal judge threw out the lawsuit, finding the president’s team provided “strained legal arguments without merit and speculative accusations” that were not supported by evidence.

In a November tweet that no longer appears to be available on his account, Cain said he was heading to Philadelphia "to link up with a team of attorneys from across the country to fight for a fair and honest election." Local television station KHOU reported at the time that Cain was interviewing election workers and poll watchers.

Has this guy ever been to a nursing home?

Besides everyone bringing their germs in with them (even the common cold can develop into deadly pneumonia in an elderly, compromised resident let alone covid), nursing homes aren't cut out for this. Where's everyone gonna vote at, the dining room?

The residents routines will be completely displaced, not enough nursing staff as there is, etc, etc, etc

There's a patients bill of rights; I don't know if they have that in TX or it's federal.

That's just a few reasons off the top of my head. Hopefully the nursing home lobby fights against this; it's a Pandora's box for them except for hope won't fly out of it at the end this time.

trumps my home being forced into being a polling station.

That's these people's homes; let's all go vote at this joker's house instead.

Anyway, I hope some elder abuse attorneys get ahold of this!

I'm just really mad right now as a retired CNA when I think back of all the frail elderly that I busted my ass to take care of to the best of my ability and then this bozo comes along.

It probably would not pass that committee, but who knows what other parts of the bill will pass?

This guy is a doofus just like Lin Wood and Sidney Powell

He can't even write a coherent bill...

The new House Speaker is bad news. He's responsible for this assignment.
Briscoe Cain was lunatic fringe before this assignment.
I'm sure Allen West has the speaker's ear.

The last two speakers were decent.

I don't need any further details of what a fuckhead this guy is. I bet his friendship with Dan Patrick runs deep.
