Second member of Public Utility Commission resigns after Texas power crisis

Shelly Botkin, a member of the Public Utility Commission, has resigned from her role, according to a Monday evening news release.

Botkin's resignation if effective immediately, according to the release.

Botkin, who was appointed her position by Gov. Greg Abbott in 2018, is the second public utility commissioner to resign from their role in recent weeks. DeAnn Walker, the former-chairwoman of the commission, resigned from her position last week.

The release did not specify why Botkin resigned from her role. The resignation comes in the wake of public outcry over the electric grid operators' handling of widespread power outages during Winter Storm Uri last month.
