College Station police explain why a bicyclist was arrested Wednesday near Texas A&M campus

COLLEGE STATION, Texas (KBTX) - College Station police are providing more details and context of an arrest near campus Wednesday that was caught on a cell phone camera and shared on several social media sites.

In the 2-minute video, College Station and Texas A&M police are seen chasing after a man on a bicycle along University Drive near Northgate in the middle of the afternoon. When they finally get to him, a police officer forcibly removed the man from the bike and onto the sidewalk where he’s warned by the officers to stop resisting arrest.

A College Station police officer warned the man he would be tased if he didn’t stop resisting. Moments later the video shows the man being tased in the back as officers struggled to put him into handcuffs.

In a statement released to the public shortly after the arrest, College Station police said the 34-year-old man was arrested and charged with evading detention, resisting arrest, and resisting transport.

Tasing and arresting someone in a traffic stop seems a bit over-zealous. However, when I use to drive through that area I paid extra attention and used my peripheral vision because several modes of transportation (bikes, scooters, skateboards, motorcycles, cars, buses, and trucks) were used by the students. It does place an additional burden on drivers because the area is so active.

All of the charges are related to the brutality of arresting a jaywalker??? Makes perfect sense... in fucking Texas!!!

on a major, busy highway. After sirens, etc., I stopped and officer informed me that I was supposed to ride against traffic.

I explained that is not correct, that I was riding right on the edge so as not to impede traffic and was riding about 25 - 30 MPH which would be dangerous against traffic. He said he would arrest me if I continued riding with traffic. I sat down and told him to call backup because I wasn't riding against traffic on that highway.

His supervisor got there -- again with sirens and lights -- and all but kicked the young officer's rear for being so stupid and wrong. I thanked them and proceeded.

Clearly, Texas police were being similarly stupid and abusive. Glad nobody was seriously injured.
