41 Texans charged in Capitol riot so far; many identified through social media, video

Internet sleuths identified Austin resident Joseph Barnes a variety of ways after he entered the U.S. Capitol in Washington on Jan. 6 and said, "This is our country," while making his way inside, according to investigators.

First, a London-based news organization captured Barnes and others on video. Then someone alerted the FBI, claiming to recognize Barnes in the video. Another person also contacted the FBI, identifying Barnes, and told agents that they had gone to Anderson High School in Austin together.

Then, a third person informed FBI agents that Barnes worked for commercial real estate company JLL and provided the company's webpage, which listed Barnes as the vice president. He has since lost his job with that company.

The FBI "is not prosecuting all of the folks who walked into the Capitol through an open door, where there was no security," said Barnes' attorney, Don Flanary. "People just happened to see him on TV, so they filed charges."

Hi Everyone - My first post after lurking for years. I've been watching this story of course and I know some people are using the "Trump told me to do it" defense. Would those people also have grounds to take action against Trump for inciting them (i.e. sue him)? Could that put Trump in personal jeopardy?

I'm no lawyer, but was wonder if anyone in the community knows how such things work (or don't work).

But if all the frivolous lawsuits over the election were able to be filed - even though all but one eventually failed - I'm guessing they could certainly try. Might work better is a bunch of them got together for a class action suit against him.

Is there a good basis for a lawsuit? Not in my opinion. These dummies are responsible for their own actions.

I think the existing lawsuits against Trump by the victims of the insurrection have a much more sound basis.
