CHAPPELL HILL, Texas -- With a population of just 350 people, what Chappell Hill lacks in size -- it more than makes up for in flair.
You never know whos sitting in this bank, said Ed Smith, president of the Chappell Hill Bank. If youre coming in to rob it, I think youre going to be in a world of hurt.
Thats because the person standing next to you could be packing heat. You see, the Chappell Hill Bank is the first in the nation that actually welcomes legally concealed handguns.
Weve been robbed five times, said Smith, All of them by Yankees.

(3,071 posts)Under the older strict concealed license rules, carrying large deposits of money was usually sufficient for a license. Guns have been in banks for decades.

Oh this is going to be rich.

(9,494 posts)Considering it is a bank in a town of 350 people, the same guy must have had to come back five times to get enough money to make it worth his while.
Are they really saying that five separate people from the North East of the US traveled all the way to Texas to rob some little bank in the boonies? And they are the only ones to rob that bank? I live in a town of 7,000 and our bank has never been robbed in 20 years and no one has a gun.
What Chappell Hill lacks in size it makes up for in almost supernatural bad luck! I would be loath to trust them with a bank full of guns. They don't seem to have the fates on their side!

Look...I live in NJ so I am familiar with oddities. That's our middle name "New Oddities Jersey". But Chappell Hill sound special (as in ed or olympics).
