Texas crash kills 10 migrants, police say van overloaded
MCALLEN, Texas: A van overloaded with 30 people, many believed to be illegal immigrants, crashed in southern Texas on Wednesday.
The accident killed 10 people, while critically injuring other passengers, the police reported.
The van veered off Highway 281 in Encino some 50 miles north of McAllen before hitting a metal utility pole around 4pm local time, killing the driver and nine passengers, according to Sgt. Nathan Brandley of the Texas Department of Public Safety.
The remaining 20 passengers were taken to local hospitals, with some listed in critical condition.
