Sen. John Cornyn says he won't support legalizing pot because of, get this, opioid overdoses

Don't expect U.S. Sen. John Cornyn to be swayed as Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer works to build support for marijuana legalization in the upper chamber.

NORML recently shared a letter Cornyn sent a constituent who asked him about marijuana policy, and in that reply, the Texas Republican said won't vote to legalize cannabis because he's worried about overdose deaths.

Been up late watching Reefer Madness again, John?

Cornyn, who chairs the Senate Caucus on International Narcotics Control, points out that between 1999 and 2020, nearly a million U.S. residents died of drug overdoses. He added: "Reasonable minds can disagree, but I am concerned that marijuana legalization could make this epidemic worse. I am committed to working with my colleagues to end the opioid epidemic and save lives."

Keeping it illegal is one way to take out Democratic voters from the election equation.

are simply republicans who smoke weed. A whole lot of "libertarians" smoke a whole lot of weed.

It's Vietnam era hippies vs. squares all over, and the squares are still jealous the rest of us are brave enough to inhale.

The only way marijuana can kill you is if someone drops a 500 lb. bale on your head.

It's not weed that's the gateway drug. Have another cocktail, Cornyn.

GOP--open up the economy, they say. Let us grow a cash crop that people want, we say. No, we can't have that.

End this prohibition now. Regulate and tax, and slap an age limit on it, just like alcohol. Pretty sure alcohol has ruined far more lives than weed ever dreamed of.

These guys all live in, and long for, 1952. Fuck that.

Too bad a majority were from opioids and not marijuana. Sh+theads like the Sacklers basically get a pass and retain all their money.

However, Cornyn doesn't give a damn about what will make this pandemic worse.
