Corpus Christi: 1 killed, 7 suspected undocumented immigrants injured in rollover

CORPUS CHRISTI — Emergency medical responders and law enforcement officials with several agencies scrambled before daylight Saturday after a two-county pursuit of suspected undocumented immigrants turned deadly.

One person was killed and seven others injured about 5:30 a.m. in a pickup rollover on I-37 near Callicoate Road, Corpus Christi Police Department officials said.

“An unknown number of people fled,” said Lt. Isaac Valencia, police traffic supervisor.

An estimated 16 people were in the vehicle when it crashed, he said.

1. The only thing that shocks me is that there were ONLY 16 people in the pickup.

Normally it's about 25-30.
