Deadlocked jurors in Bart Reagor fraud case sent home to try again Friday
A deadlocked jury was sent home Thursday after telling a federal judge in Amarillo that they were unable to come to a unanimous verdict in the bank fraud trial of Bart Reagor, the former CEO and president of Reagor-Dykes Auto Group.
Reagor, who is out on bond, is charged in an Amarillo federal court with two counts of bank fraud and one count of making a false statement to a bank. If convicted he faces up to 90 years in prison.
Reagor, who did not testify at the trial, is accused of misrepresenting to International Bank Commerce the purpose of a $10 million bank loan the bankers believed would be used as working capital, money they said would be used for the day-to-day operations of the business. Instead, prosecutors said Reagor intended to pocket more than $1.7 million of the loan for his personal benefit.
The trial started Monday and jurors began hearing testimony on Tuesday.
On Thursday, the jury began their deliberations about 10:17 a.m. However, by 4:30 p.m., jurors sent U.S. District Judge Matthew Kacsmaryk a note announcing they were deadlocked.
