LAREDO -- On Thursday, one of KGNSs news reporters, Barbara Campos, published a video on her YouTube channel detailing how she was fired by the station for not getting the COVID-19 vaccine as mandated by her employer.
In the video, Campos said her termination is not the end of her career in the industry. Although she was the only on-air personality terminated from her job, Campos did say a total of five people were fired because of not wanting to get a vaccine.
I am no longer an employee for Gray Television or KGNS in Laredo, Texas, Campos said. What happened was simple: Gray Television mandated the COVID vaccine for all employees. My vaccine exemption request was denied and, as a result, I was terminated. Fired. And although this isnt how I wanted my chapter at KGNS to come to an end, I am forever grateful for the opportunity and, of course, I miss it.
Laredo Morning Times reached out to KGNS General Manager Luis Villarreal for comment on the video.

At least eight people at KGNS were infected with COVID and four of them died. There were also infections in the family members of the affected employees. Campos also tested positive for COVID in the summer of 2020.
