Texas GOP candidate 'not comfortable' around transgender children

A Texas Republican candidate and former teacher said transgender children make her uncomfortable and questioned why other kids should be punished for making fun of them.

When asked Saturday how she would enact conservative priorities in a divided state Legislature, Shelley Luther — a candidate for the Texas House of Representatives — smeared trans children and tied her discomfort around them with her support for “school choice.”

“I am not comfortable with the transgenders,” Luther said, speaking at a candidate forum in northeast Texas. “The kids that they brought in my classroom, when they said that this kid is transgendering into a different sex, that I couldn’t have kids laugh at them ... like other kids got in trouble for having transgender kids in my class. That’s why I vote for school choice.”

Her comments drew rebuke from the state's leading LGBTQ advocates.

"Lamenting not being able to allow students to laugh at, bully and harass transgender kids isn’t leadership, it’s cruelty plain and simple," Ricardo Martinez, CEO of LGBTQ advocacy group Equality Texas, said in a statement. "All children in Texas are guaranteed a public education under the constitution, deserve privacy and the ability to learn in a safe environment."

Replace transgenders with "gays," "Blacks," "women," "Asians," "Jews," "Mexicans," "_______."

Whatever it is he is not and fears. So proud of their ignorance and hatred. Doesn't sound like the kind of teacher kids come out to, so I'm guessing she made it up.

The groups of marginalized people is shrinking ever smaller all the time.

Her idea of "choice" is, "My way or the highway."

This is the world that the Republicans want for us. Demonize anyone who is not white, straight, conservative and Christian. Dehumanizing any group is the fist step to the gas chambers. It is the direction that we are moving. Hate is the new American value.

Gosh, if these poor little bigots didn't have to deal with the ones they hate, they'd be safe and everything would be all better. Why can't they have a safe space where everyone is just like them? Why do those mean ol' others have to exist? Why do you keep hitting my fist with your face?! Won't someone think of the bullies and bigots?!

"Won't something think of the children?!" Except that kid, and this kid, and the trans kids, and any kid who doesn't look like they came from me!

"Pro-life!" Except, of course, the life of anyone who isn't cishet, white, Christian, and fit into my narrow, 20 degree view of what life should be.

People ask me all the time: Why are you such a neurotic bitch? The answer: Shelley Luther. People like Shelley Luther. The future bullies and bigots they coddle and enable. And the pain they cause me and others for "being born the wrong way."

Words hurt. Bullying scars. How many innocent people have you harmed? How many will die before their time thanks to your evil and the evil you empower?

You know what kind of person goes out of their way to inflict pain upon a child, especially one as vulnerable as a transgender child? Trick question... A "person" does not do that.

A monster does.
