transfer to irving. i do not like big city. small community outside of dallas?

i am in amarillo. probably going to be transfered to irving tx. the more i googled, the more i feel i do not want to live in dallas. i looked at denton.

i did lots of reviews for apt in irving area and COCKROACHES were the big thing. i do not like or want bugs.

can anyone throw out some areas i ought to look at. i have looked in so many areas, but, i am totally unfamiliar with this part of texas.

affordable. cost is much higher in this area than where i am living now.

also, i would have one son in highschool. sophomore yr. so i need a highschool and environment that would be healthy for a teenager.

And probably one of the purplest one in the area (outside of inner city segments). UNT is a big draw for a funky element there. The local schools are good.

Bugs will be everywhere - get a good exterminator.

I'm from Houston, so I'm not homering this. Spent a lot of time up there.

You might look into the communities closer to Irving-Grand Prairie, Arlington, Grapevine, Coppell or even Ft. Worth.

Flower Mound and Frisco are probably way too pricey, but I think at least parts of Coppell and Grapevine are in LISD.

Better than Dallas, but less expensive than Plano/Frisco. Plus the DART line through there is open now too.

I'm still visiting the area since I am using the same team of medical professionals.

I used to live in Las Colinas off of MacArthur Boulevard @ Hidden Ridge just north of North Lake College. On the surface, the apartments in the area look relatively clean and I did not have any issues with cockroaches. I am aware that a number of apartment complexes in the area did have issues with bed bugs a couple of years ago, so make some inquiries regarding that issue when looking for apartments.

Irving has a dividing line that runs along Northgate Boulevard. If you live north of that line, then you are in Las Colinas which is a planned community with underground electrical lines and higher rents. As you go south of Northgate, then you get into "old" Irving and into some less desirable neighborhoods.

There are three public high schools in Irving: MacArthur, Nimitz and Irving High along with an academy for the gifted/talented students. I also know that the way the school district boundaries are drawn that students in the Las Colinas area are bussed into the Farmers Branch/Carrollton school district. Of the three high schools, I believe that MacArthur has the strongest academic programs and would provide the safest environment.

The good news is that the DART system runs through Irving so there is bus service in town. The Orange line for DART trains runs through the Las Colinas urban core from downtown Dallas and will eventually make it to DFW airport. On the south end of town, the TRE line runs from downtown Dallas to downtown Fort Worth.

There are not any "smaller" communities within a half-hour drive of Irving, so you will most likely end up in suburbia. I also realize that you may have a number of questions that are too sensitive to discuss in a public forum so I'm sending my phone number via DU e-mail. I'm trying to relocate back into the Metroplex so we might become neighbors one day. I'm also familiar with most of the other towns/cities near the area since my college roommate's three sons went through the Grapevine ISD and I have another friend in Carrollton with children.

Please check your DU mail and I'll be glad to answer any questions that you may have.

Some school districts to go online with are:
Birdville, Carroll, Grapevine-Colleyville, and Keller.
Hurst-Euless-Bedford is a nice older area with very diverse housing.
All of these cities have a link to their school districts.

Hwy. 114 runs between this area to the north side of Irving.

Coppell is a good place too.
