Victims in West ‘will not be forgotten’ by Obama, White House spokesman says

It’s been more than a week since President Obama spoke at the memorial service in Waco for victims of the fertilizer plant explosion in West.

In the interim, the president has been dealing with some new international crises and played a round of golf with a bipartisan group of senators.

But White House spokesman Jay Carney says the president is still paying attention to the concerns of the victims in West — and to federal probes into the causes of the deadly blast.

” He is focused on it,” Carney said at a White House briefing today, “and I think you saw him on a number of occasions — because of everything else that was going on, in particular with the attacks in Boston — make sure that he was speaking about the tragedy in West, Texas, that those families know that they were not and will not be forgotten.”

Sen. Barbara Boxer has announced an upcoming Senate Environment and Public Works Committee investigation, and a Texas legislative committee has already held a public hearing. Obama is focusing on the people of West, Carney said.
