Born in Booth, Texas and raised in Houston, Thompson is the current chairwoman of the House Local and Consent Calendars Committee, vice chairwoman of the Licensing and Administrative Procedures committee and a member of the Insurance Committee.
The dean of women legislators, Thompson has served longer in the Texas Legislature than any other woman or African American in Texas history.
