The Texas Democratic Party has joined several others groups in calling on Gov. Rick Perry to call a special legislative session for lawmakers to deal with school funding.
Democrats blame Republican for public education budget cuts resulting in 11 Dallas schools closing and thousands of teachers laid off statewide with more expected. The cuts also have resulted in larger class sizes in more than 8,000 elementary school classrooms across the state.
While Texas public education funding was cut by $5.4 billion according to previous funding formulas, Democrats remind Texans that oil and gas tax revenue is far exceeding projections. Oil and gas tax revenue partially goes into the states savings account known as the Rainy Day Fund.

According to Perry's spokeswoman, Texas' budget is balanced and everything is just fine...
Perry spokeswoman Allison Castle told us to use the same response from 10 days ago when the Texas State Teachers Association urged the governor to call a special session.
The response then:
There are no plans to call a special session on this or any other issue. Thanks to Gov. Perrys fiscally conservative leadership Texas has a balanced budget and has increased funding to Texas public schools by billions of dollars, Perry spokeswoman Castle said.
Nothing to see here folks, move along...
