Brat raised nearly $400,000 by June 30, Trammell $141,000.

Dave Brat, the Republican nominee for Congress in the 7th District, says his campaign raised nearly $400,000 in the 40 days that ended June 30.

Democrat Jack Trammell, who was nominated on June 8, raised $154,753 through June 30 and ended the period with $141,199 on hand, according to his campaign.

Brat, who knocked off House Majority Leader Eric Cantor in a June primary, says most of his fundraising came from 4,673 individual donors.

Today is the deadline for congressional candidates to report their fundraising through June 30.

Brat, Trammell and Libertarian James Carr are facing off in the November election.

"The response has been incredible," Brat said in a statement. "It has exceeded all expectations.

I’m so grateful to the thousands of contributors who have supported us,” said Brat. “The huge number of smaller dollar contributors shows how much of a grassroots ‘campaign of the people’ this really is.”

Beth Cope, Trammell's campaign manager, said: “We’re just really proud of how much we were able to raise in just a few short weeks and look forward to a really competitive race.”
