Register to vote question for Virginia

Hi!
My son just turned 18 years old. He needs to register to vote. He will be leaving for college (another city in Virginia) in two weeks. Should he wait until he gets up there to register? If he registered down here would they allow him to vote up there. Worried about the precinct issue. I don't want him to get turned down at the polls. President Obama needs his vote in Virginia. THANKS!

You may apply to register to vote or change your voter registration name or address at any DMV office.
You can use DMV's driver's license/ID card application to indicate that you would like to apply to register to vote or change voter information. If you are a citizen of the United States and wish to apply to register to vote, answer the citizenship and voter registration questions on the application with "Yes" and you will be provided with a voter registration application to complete. Follow the instructions on the voter registration application carefully - you must complete all boxes and provide complete information on the voter registration application. Be sure to sign and date the voter registration application.

You may also use the driver's license/ID card application to change your voter registration name or address. Or, you may use the separate driver's license/ID card address change request form.

You are not registered to vote until your voter registration application is approved by your local voter registrar. If approved, you should receive, within 30 days, a voter registration card showing your voting location and election district. You should contact your local registrar if you do not receive the voter registration card.

hometown issues or candidates he would like to vote for at "home base", then register in his current location and get an absentee ballot sent from home or he could drive back to vote..

If he only cares about voting for President Obama, then, he might as well wait 2 weeks and register near his college; this way its easier for him to get to the polling location.

Just check on the date he must be registered by in Virginia, in order to vote in November.. Some states have cut off periods months in advance... some have same day registration and voting (which is honestly how easy voting should be in the US of A).
