Andy Parker has withdrawn from the Henry County Supervisors Race

I've not been willing to post about Allison's murder in other DU fora because it has been so traumatic to the local community here and I know people who are close to the family. But am watching a live program in which Andy is explaining his reasons for withdrawing from candidacy in local politics. On edit-- he opened with criticism of a Roanoke County Dem and former Roanoke mayor who had blocked gun control proposals, named John Edwards.

I was so incredibly sad for the victims, the families, the community, and for the killer, who wasn't right in the head, I don't think. I'll look for his remarks.

I stopped at the Bridgewater shopping center twice last spring, going and returning from a trip to Charlottesville, having lunch at the Chinese buffet place there. So in addition to feeling the pain of the local community here in Martinsville, I am familar with the site of the murders, as is everyone in the SML area. Less than a week later there was a mass killing in Bristol, TN, so maybe this will fall into the category of "one more murderous rampage to be forgotten along with the rest." But Andy Parker seems determined to prevent that and make it a watershed event. Hope he succeeds.
