A Superior man accused of bringing a 14-year-old girl from Virginia to Superior to have sex with her made an initial appearance today in Douglas County Circuit Court.
....

{The suspect, Peter Alan Diehl,} met the victim through an online chat room. The teen told him that she wanted to leave home because she thought her mom would be happier if she did. One of the last arguments the girl and her mother had before she ran away was about the teen’s inappropriate texting.

Diehl offered to help the girl out of her situation. He drove to Virginia, picked the victim up in a parking lot near her home on Aug. 16 and drove to a hotel in Hermantown. After staying at the hotel, Diehl brought the teen to his Superior residence. The girl told authorities that Diehl had sex with her daily, more than 50 times. She told Diehl she was 14 years old before he ever came to pick her up, and said there may have been sexual talk online between them before they met in person.

The teen had been reported missing and endangered in Virginia. Superior Police were alerted to the fact that the teen may be in Superior after the girl called her mother on Sept. 23. A criminal analyst determined the phone number she called from was Diehl’s. Police executed a search warrant at his residence on the 3900 block of East Itasca Street and found the teen there. Police also found a pregnancy test and prenatal vitamins as well as a dog collar, handcuffs, a sex toy and items that would have been used to “brand” the victim at the residence. A GPS unit and a receipt dated Aug. 12 from a convenience store in Raphine, Va., were located in Diehl’s car, along with a bottle of sleeping pills and a package of caffeine tablets.
