CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va (WVIR) -
A woman who played a major part in one of the stormiest chapters of University of Virginia history is now done with her time on its Board of Visitors. ... Helen Dragas finished her eight years of service on Friday, June 10. That day also marked the four year anniversary of Dragas’ announcement that UVA President Teresa Sullivan would resign.

A campus-wide email sent by members of the executive committee of the UVA Board of Visitors on June 10, 2012, announced the mutual agreement that Sullivan would step down from her position effective August 15. ... The decision to oust Sullivan was quickly reversed after public backlash. Sullivan was reinstated as the university’s president on June 26, 2012.

Dragas became the first female rector of the board in July 2011. In June 2013 she was replaced as rector by George Martin. ... Four other board members also have terms expiring at the end of June. Governor Terry McAuliffe has announced new appointments to the UVA Board of Visitors.
