Powell brings campaign to Goochland.

In addressing those who attended the Goochland town hall meeting, Powell focused on the economy, that Congress isn’t working and the “obscene” amount of money being poured into politics.

On the economy, Powell said there is “unacceptable deficit spending,” adding that based on the current debt it amounts to $187,000 per U.S. resident. Powell said Cantor has prevented pieces of legislation that could possibly help the economy from reaching the House floor.

“Not bringing things before the House of Representatives is not the answer,” Powell said.
As for Congress not working, Powell said that Cantor is “probably the most detached” member.
“If you’re in the people’s House, you need to see the people,” Powell said.

Powell also said that Cantor is “the poster child” for accepting large amounts of campaign funding from powerful interest groups.

John Grigg, who attended the town hall meeting with his wife, Blair, said he considers himself a Republican “without a party” and that he’ll probably vote for Powell.
“I think tonight was wonderful. I really do,” said Donna Zilske. “Until the Tea Party existed I considered myself an independent and at that point I became an absolute devout, card-carrying Democrat because we can’t go backwards. We just can’t.”
