Some Virginia Democrats upset by venue for Electoral College ceremony
Its likely to be bittersweet for Virginias 13 members of the Electoral College as they gather today to cast votes for the presidency and vice presidency.
The electors are expected to vote for Democrat Hillary Clinton and her running mate, U.S. Sen. Tim Kaine, a former Virginia governor and a Richmond resident. The Democrats, led by the first woman nominated to the top of a major-party ticket, recorded a 5-point victory over Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump and his running mate, Indiana Gov. Mike Pence, in Virginia on Nov. 8.
But Trump is in line to receive more electoral votes nationally than Clinton, even though she won the popular vote by nearly 3 million.
Some Virginia Democrats also are perturbed that the electors will not be able to exercise their constitutional duty in the same location they used in the past two presidential elections.
