Chesapeake paid over $34K to clean 500 gallons of dumped paint. Now, the city's suing.



CHESAPEAKE -- One day last winter, someone dumped 500 gallons of latex paint in South Hill.

It leached into the ground, a ditch, the city’s storm sewer system and the wetlands of the Elizabeth River, according to a lawsuit.

And it cost the city more than $34,000 to clean up.

The reason the paint was spilled?

So the cans could be sold as scrap metal, the suit says.
