Related: About this forumVirginia Democrats link Gillespie and Trump to white nationalist 'hate' in Charlottesville
After crying foul for weeks over the severity of Republican gubernatorial nominee Ed Gillespies attack ads, Virginia Democrats have responded with a harsh mailer of their own that connects Gillespie and President Donald Trump to the string of white nationalist rallies in Charlottesville.
In the mail ad that surfaced Tuesday, images of Trump and Gillespie are superimposed above a photo of torch-wielding white nationalists and a message saying Virginians have an opportunity to stand up to hate in the election thats now less than two weeks away.
The back of the mailer which features a photo of the entire Democratic ticket, made up of gubernatorial nominee Ralph Northam, lieutenant governor nominee Justin Fairfax and incumbent Attorney General Mark Herring says that on Nov. 7, voters can stand up to Trump, Gillespie and hate.
The Gillespie campaign, which in its own ads has painted Northam as soft on the MS-13 street gang and sex offenders, responded to the ad with outrage, accusing Democrats of exploiting a tragedy and calling for the mailers to stop.

Northam stands by Democratic mailer tying Gillespie, Trump to white nationalists
Ralph Northam, the Democratic nominee for governor, on Wednesday stood by a Democratic mailer that ties Republican Ed Gillespie and President Donald Trump to white nationalist rallies in Charlottesville.
Ed Gillespie has had over 70 days to denounce the president of this country for not calling these white supremacists out for who they are, and I would hope that he would come forward and do that, Northam said in an interview Wednesday during a campaign stop on the pedestrian mall in Winchester.
Because the message is that we live in a very diverse society. That means that we need to be inclusive. We need to welcome people. Our lights need to be on, our doors open. We dont promote hatred and bigotry in this country and in the commonwealth of Virginia.
Virginia Democrats, who have decried Gillespies ads that portray Northam as soft on the street gang MS-13, issued a mail piece that superimposes images of Trump and Gillespie over a photo of torch-wielding white nationalists marching in Charlottesville in August. The message says Virginia voters have a chance to stand up to hate in the Nov. 7 election.

(182,279 posts)1. Heard about this this morning on the radio
It's a regular monthly interview with the Governor. It's on the powerful RW station. MacAuliffe was being interviewed by their "news reporter" and he pointed out that Gillespie's MS-13 shows people from a rival gang who are in jail in a Central American country.
I think the mailer is good. Linking Ed to Trump let alone the Tiki warriors is a good idea. Very late in the game too for maximum effect.
My 2 cents.
