The Electoral Board in Stafford County is refusing to count the votes from troops overseas and around the country -- even though they could make a difference in the razor-close race for District 28.
Bob Thomas, the Republican who is 84 votes ahead of Democrat Joshua Cole, says the ballots arrived at the Electoral Board on Wednesday, the day after Election Day.
But House Democratic leaders say the county registrar simply failed to pick up the ballots from the post office box, where they had arrived on Tuesday.
Thomas says the Electoral Board has two Democrats and one Republican member, and he respects its decision.
But Cole says that especially on Veterans Day, its simply wrong to deny troops the right to vote that many of them are overseas to protect.

(1,076 posts)Does he need to be replaced for bad conduct in office. Or, for whatever is appropriate for lack of performance.
I'm a bleeding heart liberal, therefore he needs 6 months in jail and loss of voting rights.
You don't take away anyone's voting rights.

(182,585 posts)Shelly Simonds, the Democrat who is running behind Del. David Yancey, R-Newport News, by 13 votes in the 94th District House of Delegates race, received the names of roughly 25 absentee voters whose ballots were rejected for Tuesdays election after she asked for an emergency court order for the information.
But she and the Democratic Party of Virginia did not get the absentee ballot envelopes, so they plan to be in court Monday morning, said Trent Armitage, the executive director of the House Democratic Caucus.
On Thursday, Simonds and the Democratic Party of Virginia argued that if they dont get this information immediately from the Newport News Registrars Office, their ability to challenge the results of the election will be significantly hampered, according to the injunction filed in Newport News Circuit Court.
As of Friday afternoon, the Registrars Office had submitted the names Simonds was looking for, but not the envelopes they came in, Armitage said. Those envelopes contain voters signatures.

ATTENTION:
We're gathering 9AM Monday morning, at the Stafford Courthouse! The fate of the house of delegates is in our hands and we're making sure our voices are heard!
There are 55 ballots that the registrar refuses to count.
The registrar won't even release the names of those who cast a provisional ballot - meaning we can't reach out to make sure their vote is counted before the Monday noon deadline.
This is pure voter suppression and we need to speak out.
