Weeklong disciplinary hearing against Joe Morrissey scheduled to begin Monday

Facing the potential revocation of his law license for the second time in his career, Richmond lawyer Joe Morrissey has filed paperwork indicating he plans to call more than 30 witnesses as he prepares to defend himself against three ethics complaints filed by the Virginia State Bar that are scheduled to be heard during a weeklong disciplinary proceeding that begins Monday.
Morrissey, a former state delegate and Richmond mayoral candidate, is charged with destroying evidence and making false statements in court in an attempt to cover up a 2013 sexual relationship with a then-17-year-old receptionist in his law office who is now his wife allegations Morrisseys lawyer said he vehemently denies.
The three-judge panel will also hear an ethics complaint initiated by former Gov. L. Douglas Wilder, a case that centers on Morrisseys representation of Wilder and his National Slavery Museum in 2013, when Wilder was seeking to fend off a $320,000 tax bill in Fredericksburg.
