The Marden House, designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, might be one of the best kept secrets in Arlington. It is one of three Frank Lloyd Wright homes in Virginia. Designed by Frank Lloyd Wright for National Geographic photographer Luis Marden and his wife Ethel Cox the house was completed in 1959. Located at 600 Chain Bridge Road, the Marden property and the house itself, straddle the border between Arlington and Fairfax. Marden sold the property in 1998 to neighbor, and AOL founder, Jim Kimsey. Kimsey refurbished and restored the Marden House to serve as a guest house for the “property” he had built next door.

Once restored, numerous pieces were done about the Marden House. These include:
Residential Architect, a Journal of the American Institute of Architects;
New York Times Magazine;
Washington Life Magazine; and,
Mid-Century Home

Kimsey, who grew up in Arlington, passed away in 2016 at the age of 76 and his property, including the Marden House, is for sale. The estate home he built on the adjacent property, along with the Marden property, has been one of the highest assessed residential properties in Arlington County since it was completed. The County assessment for the property peaked in 2011 at $45 million.

The full property, The Falls, is a remarkable home on 3.2 acres overlooking the Potomac River. It is the most expensive property on the market in the Washington DC region at $62,950,000. Click here for the listing. In one of the photos you can see the Marden House in the background.

Many of us dream of owning a Frank Lloyd Wright house. To own one here in Arlington, along with a fairly large estate house, would require winning both the Powerball and Megamillions this weekend. See you at 7-11?

A riverfront estate assembled by the late AOL co-founder James V. Kimsey—which includes a massive home he built and an adjacent Frank Lloyd Wright-designed house—is asking $62.95 million.

The Northern Virginia estate is the most expensive residential property on the market in the Washington, D.C., area, according to Russell A. Firestone III of TTR Sotheby’s International Realty, who has the listing with colleague Mark Lowham. Straddling the border between McLean and Arlington on the Potomac River, the property is down the...
