Seattle Councilmember Lorena Gonzalez announces bid for state attorney general

Seattle City Councilmember Lorena Gonzalez is running for Washington state attorney general.

Gonzalez made her formal announcement Thursday morning.

In a campaign ad, Gonzalez focuses on her background as the daughter of two migrant farm workers raised in the Yakima Valley.

Gonzalez has served on the city council since 2016 and was re-elected in 2018. She has been seen as a rising political star dating back to her prior role as a civil rights attorney.

Gonzalez is moving forward, regardless of the future of plans of current AG Bob Ferguson, who many believe will run for governor, according to a source. Ferguson has stayed mum on his future plans while watching current Washington state Governor Jay Inslee campaign for president.
