Seattle voters are generous -- again. Parks, library levies pass
The voters of Seattle and King County have rarely met a property tax levy they don't like, even when City Hall and the courthouse keep doubling levies at a time when we are one of America's most expensive places to live.
The trend held last night.
The $810 million King County Parks levy was passing with two-thirds of the vote. The levy is more than double the $396 million levy it replaces. Its approval is good news for open space advocates, the Seattle Aquarium and the Woodland Park Zoo.
It will increase by just under $8 a month, or a little more than $90 a year, the property tax bill for the owner of a $500,000 home.
By an even larger 73% to 27% margin, Seattle voters were approving Mayor Jenny Durkan's $219 million Library Levy. It is replacing a $122 million levy. The owner of a home in the city with a median price of $722,000 would pay $84 in property taxes to support the levy.
