Surging temperatures mean Seattle area will approach 90s by Wednesday
There's no need to run for shade just yet, but the National Weather Service is warning people with heat sensitivity to be prepared for a temperature spike across much of Washington this week.
In recent days, models have consistently shown heat building in to the Seattle area over three days, with afternoon highs expected to spike in the high 80s and low 90s across the region on Wednesday. Seattle is expected to top out near 87 degrees Wednesday afternoon.
Monday temperatures will climb a few degrees, with mid 70s to mid 80s likely in the warmest spots. The warming will continue Tuesday, and high temperatures won't retreat to the 70s until Thursday. The wave is likely to hit nearly the entire state.
"Like the lowlands it will be warm at Mt. Rainier National Park Tuesday and Wednesday with highs near 80 at Paradise. The record high Wednesday, 80 set in 1986, could be broken," NWS tweeted.
