Four-hour delays on U.S. 101 at Lake Crescent will begin Oct. 7
The long-delayed four hour delays on U.S. 101, at Lake Crescent in Olympic National Park, will begin on Oct. 7, with short-delays and one-way traffic expected next week as equipment is moved into place.
Starting Oct. 7, the route to the northern Olympic Peninsula will close from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., for repairs and widening below a cliff face. U.S. 101 will be open eastbound from Forks to the Lake Crescent Lodge, and westbound from Port Angeles to E. Beach Road.
"Travelers should plan ahead to drive through the construction zone before 9 a.m. or wait until after 1 p.m.," the National Park Service said in a news release.
Travelers can use an alternative route, state Route 112, which winds along the Strait of Juan de Fuca west from Port Angeles, and state Route 113, which connects back to U.S. 101 at the wonderfully named town of Sappho.
