Washington Ferries To Hold Moment Of Silence For Veterans Monday

SEATTLE, WA — Washington State Ferries will sail under a POW/MIA flag on Veteran's Day and hold a moment of silence at 11:11 a.m. Monday. Ferries officials said crews will observe two minutes of silence to recognize the bravery of all men and women who have served in the armed forces. The timing was chosen to reflect the end of World War I, which was made official on the 11th hour, of the 11th day of November in 1918. Following the moment of silence, all vessels will sound their whistles in a salute to service members.

"Many of our routes connect military facilities and communities throughout Puget Sound," said Amy Scarton, director of Washington State Ferries. "It's a pleasure to provide safe and reliable transportation to those who have served our country - and to acknowledge our veterans on this important day."

Veterans Day is a federal holiday, observed annually on November 11th. Government offices and schools are closed, and mail will not be delivered until Tuesday.
