When to hit the road to avoid Thanksgiving traffic in and around Seattle

More than 55 million people will travel this week for Thanksgiving, according to AAA. Wednesday was expected to be by far the most traffic-filled day in cities across the country, including Seattle.

Most of those travelers, a projected 49.3 million, are expected to drive to their Thanksgiving destinations, the most since 2005.

Between 4-6 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 26, AAA expects travel in and around Seattle to take more than twice as long as it usually would, peaking around 2.7 times as long.

Air travel is also expected to be up this year, according to AAA, with 4.45 million Americans expected to take to the skies, a 4.6% increase compared to 2018. More than 64,000 travelers were expected to pass through Sea-Tac International Airport on Wednesday
