Need childcare during coronavirus school closures? This Seattle company created a service to help

Lauren Sato runs a coding school for women and gender minorities, a year-long program that draws many parents hoping to be a part of a collaborative learning environment and gain skills for well-paying jobs. Ada Developers Academy is tuition free, but requires students to devote a year of their lives -- about half of which includes an internship.

So when school closures were announced this month across Washington in response to the outbreak of the novel coronavirus, Sato, CEO, knew childcare was going to be an urgent need for parents in the program who needed to continue with classes -- even in a remote way -- to graduate.

"They're making a huge investment and it would just be really heartbreaking to see them not be able to finish the program because of this," she said.

That's when she took advantage of a new service from Weekdays, a Seattle-based company, to help connect parents in need with urgent childcare services during the weeks-long school closures across the country.
