With Washington governor Jay Inslee officially ordering residents to stay at home to combat the spread of the coronavirus, the community is adapting to being home more often than ever.
Staying home should be everyone's priority for the coming weeks, but there are some outings that are essential. People are allowed to leave their houses to go grocery shopping, but are urged to do that as little as possible.
When going out, certain stores are changing their procedures to keep customers safe while shopping.
Trader Joe's is making people line up outside, and only allowing a small amount of customers to shop at any given time. The store is also keeping every other checkout stand closed, wiping down surfaces and more to ensure their employees and customers healthy.
But they can't do it alone.
Stores need customers to help as well. Trader Joe's is specifically asking customers to stay six feet apart during their entire shopping trip. They are also asking that customers step back from the register while employees ring up items in order to maintain the six feet apart rule.

(9,952 posts)Distancing. The play had a lot less traffic, which I appreciate. That was when social distancing had just started. I am glad to see them doing this.

(21,774 posts)I was puzzled as to why I could get a parking space that day when on the past few days it was well nigh impossible.
Then I saw people queuing outside, maintaining their distance from each other.
I saw that as 5 people came out with their groceries, 5 people were let in.
And then it occurred to me: this was to ensure physical distancing and avoid overcrowding and pandemonium.
As I took a cart, there was a cleaning station at the entrance where I could wipe down the cart and clean my hands. Every TJ employee was wearing latex gloves.
When I finished shopping and checked out, i thanked them for what they were doing, and joked that they should be getting combat pay. We all laughed as I left.

(21,055 posts)Line outside around a corner everyone kept 6 feet apart. When you entered they put hands sanitizer on you. The stores are not crowded and you can move freely around with a lot of space. You are limited to two items of the same thing. I got toilet paper, paper towels, rice and my vitamin c vitamins that I ran out of. Plus other stuff to fill my pantry for meals I can make easily. I love my TJs.

(25,816 posts)A liquor store and a grocery store. Neither one had very many customers and everyone was keeping distance.
Yeast and some flour have returned to the one grocery store. I didn't bother to look at paper goods because I am currently well stocked with those.
