Late Wednesday, Gov. Jay Inslee clarified his "stay home, stay healthy" order to say most construction work is nonessential as Washingtonians try to keep COVID-19 from spreading.

The temporary ban applies to commercial and residential work, except for publicly financed low-income housing.

Inslee's decision sidelines thousands of employees in the region's multibillion-dollar construction industry.

The stay-home order is in place for at least two weeks, though Inslee may reconsider the ban on most construction work in about a week, said Dave D'Hondt, executive vice president of the Associated General Contractors of Washington.

1. PA stopped all commercial and residential construction almost a week ago.
