Seattle Foundation disperses first $10M of COVID-19 Response Fund to 128 nonprofits
The COVID-19 Response Fund operated by The Seattle Foundation dished out just under $10.2 million in grants after raising $15.7 million in donations.
The fund distributed money to 128 nonprofits in the past week, according to a Monday news release. The nonprofits provide Puget Sound area residents support in four major categories: immediate needs, health, reduced and lost work, and fear and confusion. The relief funds will go toward rent support, food security, health care, child care, as well as providing information, services and protection for vulnerable communities, particularly those seeing an increase in violence and hate crimes and those who typically access services that are closed.
Seattle Foundation identified grant recipients alongside United Way of King County and King Countys Pandemic Community Advisory Group of 40 local leaders and experts.
United Way of King County's rental assistance program received the largest grant of the first round at $1.5 million and was the only single program to receive more than $1 million. The program provides emergency rental assistance during the health crisis so those unable to work or pay won't fall behind and face significant debts when COVID-19 subsides.
