Washington's projected COVID-19 death total could drop 60% due to social distancing

SEATTLE -- Everything we’re doing is helping to flatten the curve, according to state health officials Tuesday. But health officials said we have not reached the peak for COVID-19 yet.

“Unfortunately, it's really difficult to know if we are at peak activity,” said Dr. Kathy Lofy, Washington State Health Officer. “We generally do not know if we have peaked in the state until we see about a 2, or 3 weeks' decline in all our data indicators, and we have not seen that yet.”

New modeling suggests our projected total COVID-19 deaths could drop by 60 percent.

But Governor Jay Inslee said we can’t let up since the cases are still coming in.

“That’s really good news but people need to understand in that model, it is modeled on the assumption that will continue to keep our nose to the ground here and our shoulder to the wheel,” Inslee said. “If we let up, that number is going up again in fatalities.”

I share the governor's skepticism. We should proceed with caution.

it's a mathematical fact. Gotta keep on keeping on. Until we can say with some degree of certainly that numbers are falling consistantly over time, we're not outta the woods.

We still need more testing, tons and tons of more testing, including post COVID testing to see who's gotten over it.

Just heard that nationally, we've only tested about 1% of the population. That just doesn't cut it.

Talked to my doc at VA today, phone checkup. She said that even though they can process tests in-house now (good thing!), they still don't have enough tests to do anybody but staff and people with symptoms.

grocery shopping! (JFC: ARE YOU BETTER OFF NOW THAN 3 YEARS AGO.... WTF!)

So, first time in nearby city (small-medium-sized). Many masks - esp. older folks like us. Not many gloves, which was surprising. We had on both. I have a hard time remembering to socially distance when I'm in public, because I so rarely am anymore. We live out in the country and haven't seen anyone in person in almost a month! So, I guess we are isolating, more than distancing.

We pre-ordered for the most part and/or had goods brought out to the car. Worked well.

I'm exhausted ... when we got home we washed / sterilized / wiped down every item. The mental strain of being intentional with formerly automatic moves, such as putting away groceries! is also tiring.

Not sure if the lady at the liquor store appreciated my comment...with all the masks on it would be an opportune time for a holdup!

Anyway....so, where is that weed we bought? THANK GOD it's legal here. They even brought it out to our car! We did have to pay cash though, of course. Which we sprayed with hydrogen peroxide when we got it out of the ATM!

Rock on, folks! Stay safe. We are holed up for another 10-14 days!

PS Hubs and I both turned 65 over this quarantine time - me on 3/29, him on Friday. Also, he retired. Not exactly what I imagined, but it does take the pressure off for staging a party!

in a week. Ten new ones today. Averaging slightly less than 1 death every day. I'm amazed it's no higher since the virus first appeared in a nursing home. Proceed with caution.
